Understanding nil rate

Do you want to take steps to reduce the tax your children will pay on their inheritance? Nil rate band is the amount above which inheritance tax is charged at 40%.

The current limit of the monetary sum has been frozen at £325,000 since 2009/2010.

An additional allowance (the residence nil-rate band) came into effect in April 2017.Clients should review their circumstances to establish if they qualify for the new allowance.

Info on inheritance tax

How does the nil rate band work?

Inheritance tax is a tax on the estate of a deceased person. It includes the total value of property, money and possessions of the deceased. Any part of the estate left to a husband, wife or civil partner is free of inheritance tax.

If your husband, wife or civil partner dies, and you are their child or grandchild, you could be liable to pay inheritance tax, if the value of everything they own will exceed their total nil rate band. If you need more information, call me or use the form below to contact me.
